Winterization.

We are sitting in what could be a very cold winter in Boise, Idaho and the surrounding Treasure Valley. It’s essential to protect your plumbing from freezing temperatures that can cause costly damage.

Below are five simple tips to help winterize your plumbing and keep your pipes safe throughout the colder months.

  1. Disconnect hoses: Remove garden hoses from outdoor faucets and store them indoors.

  2. Shut off and drain outdoor faucets: Turn off the water supply to outdoor faucets and open them slightly to drain any remaining water.

  3. Insulate exposed pipes: Wrap pipes in insulation, especially those in unheated areas like attics or crawl spaces.

  4. Seal air leaks: Caulk and utilize weatherstripping around windows and doors to prevent cold air from entering.

  5. Keep garage doors closed: Keep the garage door closed to prevent cold air from reaching pipes in the garage.

By following these tips, you can help prevent frozen pipes this winter and therefore prevent disastrous emergencies.
